When Kimberly Luzier’s father died, the loss took its toll. She lived on chips and soda, slept 10 hours a day, struggled to turn over in bed, and spent Saturday nights at the computer. “I was an emotional wreck,” she says. Finally, photos triggered a desire to change. Weighing 316 pounds and just plain “fed up,” she walked into Curves. Scared at first, she “just kept going” and believes her father helped her. Today, at 24 Kimberly’s lost 120 pounds and is happy, energetic, and social. Saturday nights are spent with her boyfriend. |

Fran Spivack
“My fear of other people’s judgments isolated me. I only went to work and came home. Curves hasn’t just changed my life, it’s made my life.”

Fran Spivak filled her days dreaming “what if.” What could her life be “if” she lost weight, “if” she wore normal-size clothes, “if” she could walk 10 feet without getting winded. Not long after stomach-stapling surgery, she found herself regaining and nearing 325 of her original 530 pounds. She thought she would have to take drastic action. Happily, Curves required only discipline induced by the wisdom, warmth, and camaraderie its program offered. In less than a year at Curves, Fran worked off more than 100 pounds. By becoming such a big loser, she’s become an even bigger winner.

“Thanks to Curves, I’m less self-conscious. I never imagined I’d be back in a size 8! I went on a cruise recently and wore a bikinisomething I never, ever thought I would do.”

Like everyone in her family, paralegal Andrea Evans has long battled weight. But as an avid soccer player and skier, she fought back gamely until recently, when sports injuries took a devastating toll on her knees, leading to severe arthritis. Sidelined, Andrea became increasingly overweight and depressed. Her boss kindly insisted that Andrea check out Curves, where she was a member. How do you say no to your boss? Apparently, you don’t, if you know what’s good for you. For Andrea, it doesn’t get much better than Curves. |
